Gemini Robotics 2 helps Apollo 2 perform whole-body tasks

, Gemini Robotics ER 2 (an embodied reasoning model for multi-step task planning and robot teamwork), and Gemini Robotics On-Device 2 (an efficient on-device VLA that can adapt to new robot embodiments in a few hours with under 200 examples). Key advances include controlling Apptronik's Apollo 2 humanoid for whole-body tasks, fine dexterous manipulation with 22-DOF hands, agentic reasoning for multi-minute task sequences, and a new ASIMOV-Agentic safety benchmark. The ER 2 model is available on Google AI Studio and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, while VLA models are in early-access partner preview. #robotics#google-gemini#google-deepmind Jul 30•10m read time•From deepmind.google Image 1: Post cover image 10 Impressions 1 Upvote Comment Bookmark Copy Sort:

For the first time, our model can now control entire humanoid robots, translating intent into intelligent whole-body control. For example, when controlling Apptronik’s Apollo 2 humanoid robot, we can ask it to “put the watering can into the green bin in the bottom shelf.” Apollo processes the instruction, walks to the table, and picks up the watering can, takes a few steps to the shelves, and places it precisely in its destination. While our robots have more to advance in movement speed, this is an important step towards the skills needed to complete more complex, real-world tasks that require whole-body coordination. ## Bringing advanced dexterity to hands and grippers [...] ## Bringing advanced dexterity to hands and grippers To be genuinely useful in our homes and workplaces, robots need finesse. Gemini Robotics 2 unlocks a new level of physical dexterity across different end effectors, whether a robot is using hands or grippers, enabling robots to be more useful than ever before.

To test multi-robot collaboration with Gemini Robotics 2, we challenged our Apollo and Duo robots to tidy up a messy garage. The high-level reasoning model breaks down what to do, w

bag task, in particular, several people did think it was impossible. You don't think about how to drive 22 separate joints when you operate your hand, but that's what we're asking these AI models to do. And third thing is, in Gemini Robotics 2 we add a feature that enables multiple robots to collaborate to accomplish the same task simultaneously. [Apollo] Hey Duo, kit all tools in the bin, close the kit and put the kit back into the bin. [Duo] On it. Each of these two robots is running that same stack, and so rather than having one neural network that controls both robots each have their own copy, and they're doing their own individual thinking, and they're actually orchestrating through reasoning. [Apollo] Awesome precision, Duo. Keep going. We're really after intelligence and [...] How are you today, Apollo? [Apollo] I'm a little nervous. Is that a microphone? For the robot, dealing with challenges of the actual physical world is borderline impossible. But for us humans, it comes so
