MiniMax Releases M3.1 Flash Open Weights with Day-Zero Together AI Support

The launch post makes the focus clear: multi-step business workflows across SaaS tools, long coding sessions, operating a computer and security tasks like code auditing. A larger Pro model is promised "later". The weights are not yet released (vendor-stated), even though one API docs page already describes the model as open-weight, so treat self-hosting as a future option rather than a current one. For the previous generation, see our MiniMax M3 overview. [...] What is MiniMax M3.1 Flash? It is MiniMax's newest Flash model, built for agent tasks, coding, computer use and security work. MiniMax rolled it out on October 19, 2026 through its API, the M Plan and MiniMax Code, and says the weights will be released later (vendor-stated, read October 20, 2026). What is MiniMax M3.1 Flash pricing? MiniMax lists flat rates of $0.15 per million input tokens, $0.60 per million output tokens and $0.015 per million cached input tokens (vendor-stated, October 20, 2026). How much can it take in at

The model supports text and image inputs, text outputs and a context window of one million tokens, according to Artificial Analysis. MiniMax also claims that the model cangenerate more than 200 tokens per second, with median output speeds consistently exceeding 170 tokens per second. The company attributes the performance improvements partly to increased sparsity, an architectural approach intended to reduce the amount of computation required to generate responses. The weights remain proprietary at launch, but MiniMax says it plans to release them on October 23. It has not yet provided the licensing terms for that release, making it premature to determine how broadly enterprises will be able to modify or self-host the model. Point Claude Code, OpenCode or Cline at the same base URL and model ID and you have a coding agent. Stream long replies, and keep the system prompt stable across turns so the $0.015 cached-input rate covers most of each request. ## Try it M3.1 Flash is the first model in this price band that holds its own on agent benchmarks, and the shrine demo shows what four hours and $4.50 buys. ## Where to Get It M3.1 Flash is available through the MiniMax API, the M Plan subscription and the MiniMax Code desktop app. MiniMax has said open weights will follow, with its official account naming October 23 as the date. A more capable Pro model is also on the way. Cheap, fast models have become the main battleground for Chinese labs since DeepSeek started a price war across the sector, and DeepSeek’s own V4.1-Flash-1017 update landed just days earlier. Independent reviewers put M3.1 Flash among the cheapest frontier-class models available, while flagging a high hallucination rate, a weakness that matters for businesses letting agents act without supervision.
