Will Developers Keep Using DeepSeek After the API Price Increase?

DeepSeek has raised prices for its V4 Flash and V4 Pro APIs, prompting developers to reassess costs, workloads, and alternatives. The change primarily affects API usage rather than the consumer web and app experience.

DeepSeek has reportedly increased the prices of its V4 Flash and V4 Pro APIs, with separate rates for peak and off-peak periods. The impact differs by workload because cached input, uncached input, and output are priced separately, and the reported increases are not uniform across these categories.

The change is most relevant to developers, AI application teams, and users running high-volume agents. It does not mean that ordinary users of DeepSeek’s website or mobile app are automatically being charged according to API rates.

Long-context workflows, repeated tool calls, and iterative coding agents are likely to see the largest cost increases. Some third-party services have already reduced model quotas in response to higher upstream costs, leaving users to balance price, performance, and migration effort.
