Speculation Puts Codex’s Next Broad Reset on August 14, With No Official Confirmation

A community theory suggests OpenAI could reset Codex usage limits for users on August 14, following the possible expiration of banked resets issued in July. Available evidence confirms past resets but does not verify this date.

The theory assumes that some banked resets granted in July will expire on August 13, prompting users to spend them before the deadline. Under that assumption, a broad reset on August 14 could be a relatively efficient way for OpenAI to manage capacity while continuing its recent pattern of Codex resets.

Public reporting confirms that OpenAI has offered banked resets to eligible Plus and Pro users, generally with a 30-day validity period. OpenAI representatives have also announced previous resets involving Codex and ChatGPT Work users. However, the available evidence does not show that all July-issued resets expire on August 13 or that a universal reset is planned for August 14.

The claim should therefore be treated as an unverified forecast rather than a product announcement. Users should rely on the reset information displayed in their own Codex accounts.
