OpenAI previews Private Safety Processing while continuing Zero Data Retention
OpenAI says eligible API customers will continue to receive Zero Data Retention for frontier models. The company is also previewing Private Safety Processing, a system intended to detect risks across related interactions without exposing the underlying content to OpenAI staff.
OpenAI says eligible API customers using its frontier models can continue using Zero Data Retention, meaning prompts and model responses are not retained after a request is processed. Customer content is also excluded from model training unless the customer explicitly opts in.
The company is previewing Private Safety Processing to address risks that may only become apparent across multiple interactions. The system is designed to identify potentially harmful patterns and produce narrowly scoped safety signals without giving OpenAI personnel access to the original prompts or responses.
