Open-source app expands Pixel 11 Pro’s rear HiLight LED

“HiLight Studio” is the result, an app that gives users full control of the Pixel 11 Pro’s light to do basically anything. Where Google solely supports call notifications and a status light for Gemini, this app lets you use it as a notification LED with patterns, custom color choices, and more. It’s customizable on a per-app basis with granular settings beyond that. You can also build and export presets to share with other users. HiLight Studio adds custom colors, light animations, and app notifications to your Pixel 11 Pro's underutilized HiLight LED.

The funny thing is, I don’t even have to imagine what a more capable HiLight could look like. The open-source HiLight Studio app takes the Pixel 11 Pro’s LED much further than Google currently does. You can assign different colors to different apps and play around with patterns such as pulse, breathe, wave, comet, and even rainbow. HiLight is a major part of the latest family of Pixel 11 Pro smartphones, including the 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold. (The base model Pixel 11 doesn't include this feature.) It was one of the first features to be leaked in the rumor mill. HiLight syncs with Google Messages and WhatsApp for message indicators, but it also works with Gemini when you trigger the chatbot.
